ONTARIO JUDICIAL APPOINTMENTS ANNOUNCED



OTTAWA, June 12, 1998 -- The Honourable Anne McLellan, Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada, today announced the following appointments:

The Honourable Madam Justice Kathryn Feldman is appointed a judge of the Court of Appeal for Ontario. She replaces Mr. Justice H. Krever, who has chosen to become a supernumerary judge.

Madam Justice Feldman graduated in law from the Univeristy of Toronto in 1973, and was called to the Bar of Ontario in 1975. Prior to her appointment to the Ontario Court (General Division) in 1990, Madam Justice Feldman practised law with the firm of Blake, Cassels & Graydon.

Dennis R. O’Connor, Q.C., of Toronto is appointed a judge of the Court of Appeal for Ontario. He replaces Mr. Justice A.M. Austin, who has chosen to become a supernumerary judge.

Mr. Justice O’Connor graduated in law from Osgoode Hall Law School in 1964, and was called to the Bar of Ontario in 1966.

Mr. Justice O’Connor practised general law with an emphasis on criminal law with the firm of Carrick, O’Connor from 1966 to 1977. During this period, he acted as a part-time Crown Attorney for the County of York (1970-1973), as a Magistrate in the Yukon Territory (1973-1976), as a Provincial Judge in British Columbia (1975-1976), and as a Deputy Magistrate for the Northwest Territories (1974-1976). From 1976 to 1980, Mr. Justice O’Connor acted as part-time Crown Attorney for the County of Middlesex and was Associate Professor at the Faculty of Law of the University of Western Ontario. Since 1980, Mr. Justice O’Connor has been practising law as General Counsel with the firm of Borden & Elliot.

Lynda C. Templeton of Hannon is appointed a judge of the Ontario Court (General Division) in Milton. She replaces Mr. Justice R.E. Zelinski, who will be transferred to Thunder Bay, to replace Mr. Justice T. Platana, who was appointed Regional Senior Judge for the Northwest Region.

Madam Justice Templeton graduated from the University of Western Ontario Law School in 1984, and was called to the Bar of Ontario in 1986. She has since been practising family law, civil litigation and criminal law in Hamilton.

Madam Justice Templeton has been an Assistant Crown Attorney since 1987. While acting as a part time Assistant Crown Attorney from 1989 to 1994, she practised law with the firm of Martin and Martin.

Madam Justice Templeton is a member of the Association des juristes d’expression française de l’Ontario.

These appointments are effective immediately.

Colin Livingstone Campbell, Q.C., of Toronto is appointed a judge of the Ontario Court (General Division) in Toronto. He replaces Mr. Justice S. Borins, who was appointed to the Court of Appeal for Ontario.

Mr. Justice Campbell graduated in law from Queen’s University in 1965, and was called to the Bar of Ontario in 1967, to the Bar of Alberta in 1974 and to the Bar of the Northwest Territories in 1976.

Mr. Justice Campbell has been practising civil litigation with the firm of McCarthy Tétrault and lecturing extensively on various topics related to civil litigation.

This appointment is effective June 19, 1998.
