QUEBEC JUDICIAL APPOINTMENT ANNOUNCED



OTTAWA

, July 15, 1998 -- The Honourable Anne McLellan, Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada, today announced the following appointment:

Suzanne Hardy-Lemieux of Sillery is appointed a judge of the Superior Court of Quebec for the District of Quebec. She replaces Mr. Justice G. Boisvert who has chosen to become a supernumerary judge.

Madam Justice Hardy-Lemieux graduated in law from Laval University in 1974 and obtained a Master of Jurisprudence from the University of Birmingham, England in 1980. She was called to the Quebec bar in 1975.

Madam Justice Hardy-Lemieux initially joined the law firm of Gagnon, de Billy et associés. In 1978, she acted as legal counsel for the Régie de l'assurance automobile du Québec. After obtaining her LL.M., Madam Justice Hardy-Lemieux acted as legal counsel and then as assistant director of litigation for Laurentian Mutual Insurance. Since 1986, she has been practising civil law, mainly insurance law, with the firm of Tremblay, Bois, Mignault et associés.

This appointment is effective immediately.
