COMPETITION TRIBUNAL APPOINTMENT ANNOUNCED

OTTAWA, December 17, 1998 -- The Honourable Anne McLellan, Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada, today announced the following appointment:

Mr. Justice Marc Nadon from Ottawa, Ontario, has been appointed a member of the Competition Tribunal. He replaces Mr. Justice Marc Noël who has been elevated to the Court of Appeal of the Federal Court of Canada.

Mr. Justice Nadon graduated in Law from the University of Sherbrooke in 1973 and was called to the Bar of Quebec in 1974. Prior to his appointment to the Federal Court of Canada, Trial Division, in 1993, Mr. Justice Nadon had been practising law with the firm Martineau, Walker.

This appointment is effective immediately.
