QUEBEC JUDICIAL APPOINTMENT ANNOUNCED



OTTAWA

, October 8, 1997 -- The Honourable Anne McLellan, Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada, today announced the following appointment:

Claude Henri Gendreau of Rimouski, Quebec, is appointed to the Superior Court of Quebec for the District of Rimouski. He replaces Mr. Justice R. Pidgeon, who has been appointed to the Quebec Court of Appeal.

Mr. Justice Gendreau graduated in law from Laval University Law School in 1971, and was called to the Bar of Quebec in 1973. He is a partner of the firm Gendreau, Roy, Beaulieu & Carrier and a specialist in civil litigation and corporate and commercial law. Since 1987, Mr.&nbspJustice Gendreau has been on the Quebec list of official arbitrators, and he has experience in alternative dispute resolution. Mr. Justice Gendreau served two terms as President of the Law Society of the Bas-Saint-Laurent/Gaspésie. He has also been active with the Canadian Bar Association.

This appointment is effective immediately.
