ONTARIO JUDICIAL APPOINTMENTS ANNOUNCED
OTTAWA, May 17, 2000 -- The Honourable Anne McLellan, Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada, today announced the following appointments:
The Honourable Mr. Justice J. Bryan Shaughnessy of Whitby is appointed Regional Senior Judge of the Superior Court of Justice for the Central East Region. He replaces the Honourable Mr. Justice H. David P. Logan who elected to
become a supernumerary judge.
Mr. Justice Shaughnessy received his LL.B. from Queen's University in 1974 and was called to the Bar of Ontario in 1976. Before being appointed to the Ontario Court of Justice, General Division in 1998, he was a partner in the Whitby law firm
of Sosna & Shaughnessy. Mr. Justice Shaughnessy is a member of the Canadian Judges' Conference and the Ontario Superior Court Judges' Association.
This appointment is effective immediately.
The Honourable Mr. Justice J. Douglas Cunningham of Ottawa is appointed Regional Senior Judge of the Superior Court of Justice for the East Region. He replaces the Honourable Mr. Justice J. B. Chadwick who has resigned from that
position and been reappointed to the Superior Court of Justice.
Mr. Justice Cunningham received his LL.B. from Queen's University in 1967 and was called to the Bar of Ontario in 1969. Before being appointed to the Ontario Court of Justice, General Division in 1991, he was a partner in the Kingston firm of
Cunningham, Swan, Carty, Little and Bonham. He is currently President of the Ontario Superior Court Judges' Association.
The Honourable Mr. Justice James B. Chadwick received his LL.B. from the University of Ottawa in 1962 and was called to the Bar of Ontario in 1964. Before being appointed to the High Court of Ontario in 1988, he practiced law in
Toronto. He was appointed to the Ontario Court of Justice, General Division in 1990 and has served as Regional Senior Judge since 1995.
These appointments are effective June 30, 2000.
