NEW BRUNSWICK TO RECEIVE CENTRAL PROCESSING FACILITY
OTTAWA, January 17, 1997 -- The Government of Canada today announced that high-technology components of the Canadian Firearms Registration System will be established in New Brunswick. The city of Miramichi will be the site of the
Central Processing Facility for firearms licenses and registration certificates. The facility will receive and process information on application forms for licenses and registration certificates, and issue cards.
The Canadian Firearms Registration System will use advanced technology to make firearms registration simple, efficient and cost-effective. New Brunswick's proven capabilities in the technology sector, combined with a bilingual workforce, meets the
business requirements for the Central Processing Facility.
The Central Processing Facility will create at least 50 jobs. It will start to operate in early 1998, once the licensing of firearms owners and the registration of firearms begins.
