COMPETITION TRIBUNAL APPOINTMENTS ANNOUNCED

OTTAWA, March 12, 2002 -- The Honourable Martin Cauchon, Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada, today announced the following appointments:

Mr. Justice François Lemieux of Ottawa has been appointed a member of the Competition Tribunal. He replaces Associate Chief Justice Allan Lutfy who resigned his position on the Tribunal.

Mr. Justice Lemieux received his LL.B. from the University of Toronto in 1964, and was admitted to the Bar of Ontario in 1966. He was appointed to the Federal Court of Canada - Trial Division in 1999.

Madam Justice Eleanor Dawson of Ottawa has been appointed a member of the Competition Tribunal. She replaces Mr. Justice Marc Nadon who was recently appointed to the Federal Court of Canada - Appeal Division.

Madam Justice Dawson received her LL.B. from the University of Manitoba in 1976, and was admitted to the Bar of Manitoba the following year. She was appointed to the Federal Court of Canada - Trial Division in 1999.

These appointments are effective immediately.
