ONTARIO JUDICIAL APPOINTMENT ANNOUNCED
OTTAWA, June 5, 2002 -- The Honourable Martin Cauchon, Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada, today announced the following appointment:
David Salmers of Oshawa is appointed a judge of the Superior Court of Justice and will be assigned by the Chief Justice to Whitby. He replaces Mr. Justice J. Bryan Shaughnessy who was appointed Regional Senior Judge of the Central
East Region.
Mr. Justice Salmers received a Bachelor of Laws from Queen's University in 1980, and was admitted to the Bar of Ontario in 1982. At the time of his appointment, Mr. Justice Salmers was a partner with the Oshawa firm of Salmers, Strike and Furlong
engaged in general practice. He has experience in a wide range of areas including real estate and mortgages, family law, will and estates, civil and criminal litigation as well as corporate-commercial and municipal matters. He has appeared before both
the trial and appellate courts and before various administrative tribunals. Throughout his career, Mr. Justice Salmers has participated as a speaker at various professional and community events on a range of legal topics in his areas of expertise.
This appointment is effective immediately.
