ONTARIO JUDICIAL APPOINTMENT ANNOUNCED
OTTAWA, November 21, 2002 -- The Honourable Martin Cauchon, Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada, today announced the following appointment:
Andromahi Karakatsanis of Toronto is appointed a judge of the Superior Court of Justice in Toronto.
Madam Justice Karakatsanis received a Bachelor of Laws from Osgoode Hall Law School in 1980, and was admitted to the Bar of Ontario in 1982. After completing her clerkship with the Chief Justice of Ontario, Madam Justice Karakatsanis practiced in
Toronto until her appointment as Vice-Chair of the Liquor Licence Board of Ontario in 1987. The following year, she became the Chair and Chief Executive Officer of that organization, a position she held until her appointment in 1995 as Assistant Deputy
Attorney General and Secretary of the Ontario Native Affairs Secretariat. In 1997, she was named Deputy Attorney General and in 2000, became the Secretary of the Cabinet and Clerk of the Executive Council of the Government of Ontario.
Madam Justice Karakatsanis is a former Chair of the Circle of (Tribunal) Chairs, as well as a former Vice-President of the Society of Adjudicators and Regulators. She has organized and participated in numerous administrative justice conferences and
training programs, and has spoken and written on issues related to administrative law, procedural reform, alternative dispute resolution, and the rule of law.
