SASKATCHEWAN JUDICIAL APPOINTMENT ANNOUNCED



OTTAWA, October 24, 1996 -- The Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada, Allan Rock, today announced the following appointment:

Ted C. Zarzeczny, Jr., Q.C., of Regina is appointed a judge of the Court of Queen's Bench for Saskatchewan in Regina to replace Mr. Justice K.R. Halvorson, who resigned.

Mr. Justice Zarzeczny graduated in law from the University of Saskatchewan in 1971, and was called to the Bar of Saskatchewan in 1972 and to the Bar of Alberta in 1984.

Since 1974, Mr. Justice Zarzeczny has been a partner of Graf & Zarzeczny, which merged with MacDougall Ready in 1995. He has practised civil and criminal litigation and administrative law. In 1972, he was appointed Provincial Magistrate and was Acting Provincial Magistrate from 1974 to 1975, with responsibilities for Family and Juvenile Court and Traffic Court. He acted as agent for the Attorney General of Saskatchewan for public prosecutions in the Moosomin Judicial Centre from 1974 to 1982.

Mr. Justice Zarzeczny was a Bencher of the Law Society of Saskatchewan from 1982 to 1988.

This appointment is effective immediately.
