ONTARIO JUDICIAL APPOINTMENT ANNOUNCED

OTTAWA, March 28, 2001 -- The Honourable Anne McLellan, Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada, today announced the following appointment:

Michael Quigley, Q.C., of Smiths Falls is appointed a Judge of the Superior Court of Justice in Pembroke. He replaces Mr. Justice E.R. Millette who has chosen to become a supernumerary judge.

Mr. Justice Quigley received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Loyola College (now Concordia University) in Montreal in 1964, and a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Ottawa in 1968. He was admitted to the Law Society of Upper Canada in 1970. Since his admission to the Ontario Bar, Mr. Justice Quigley has been in general practice in Smiths Falls with a special interest in criminal and civil litigation. At the time of his appointment, Mr. Justice Quigley was the senior partner in the Smiths Falls firm of Quigley Ross & Cliffen, a partnership formed with Michael Ross (1977), Michael Cliffen (1981), associate Heather Morrison (1988) and Timothy Ray, Counsel. Mr. Justice Quigley was appointed Queen's Counsel in 1981.

This appointment is effective immediately.
