LAW COMMISSION OF CANADA APPOINTMENT ANNOUNCED

OTTAWA, April 6, 2001 -- The Honourable Anne McLellan, Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada, today announced the following appointment:

Roderick J. Wood of the University of Alberta in Edmonton is appointed a part-time Commissioner of the Law Commission of Canada.

Professor Wood received a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Saskatchewan in 1980, followed by a Master of Laws from the University of Toronto in 1982 and a Diploma in Legislative Drafting from the University of Ottawa the following year.

He joined the Faculty of Law at the University of Alberta in 1987, specializing in the area of personal property security law. He is the author of numerous publications and a frequent presenter at conferences in his area of expertise. A former Legal Research Officer with the Law Reform Commission of Saskatchewan, Professor Wood was a member of the Alberta Law Reform Institute just prior to his appointment. He is a founding member of the Conference on Canadian Personal Property Security Law and currently serves as a member of the Uniform Law Conference Working Group on personal property security legislation.

This appointment is effective immediately.
