NOVA SCOTIA JUDICIAL APPOINTMENT ANNOUNCED

OTTAWA, June 7, 2001 -- The Honourable Anne McLellan, Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada, today announced the following appointment:

Leslie Dellapinna, Q.C., of Halifax is appointed a Judge of the Nova Scotia Supreme Court. He replaces Mr. Justice G.A. Tidman, who has chosen to become a supernumerary judge.

Mr. Justice Dellapinna received a Bachelor of Laws from Dalhousie University in 1981 and was admitted to the Bar of Nova Scotia the following year. Just prior to his appointment, he was a partner with Cox Hanson O'Reilly Matheson in Halifax, where he specialized in family law. Mr. Justice Dellapinna has extensive litigation experience at both the trial and appellate levels. Throughout his career, Mr. Justice Dellapinna has been a frequent presenter on family law issues for the Nova Scotia Bar Admission Course and the Nova Scotia Continuing Legal Education Society. Mr. Justice Dellapinna was appointed Queen's Counsel in 2000.

This appointment is effective immediately.
