PRINCE EDWARD ISLAND JUDICIAL APPOINTMENT ANNOUNCED

OTTAWA, June 11, 2001 -- The Honourable Anne McLellan, Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada, today announced the following appointment:

Gordon L. Campbell, Q.C., of Charlottetown is appointed a Judge of the Supreme Court of Prince Edward Island - Trial Division. He replaces Madam Justice Linda K. Webber who has been appointed to the Supreme Court of Prince Edward Island - Appeal Division.

Mr. Justice Campbell received a Bachelor of Laws from the University of New Brunswick in 1980, and was admitted to the Bar of Prince Edward Island the following year. Prior to his appointment, Mr. Justice Campbell was a partner with the firm of Stewart McKelvey Stirling Scales in Charlottetown. He was in general practice with a particular focus on corporate-commercial matters. He served as President of the Prince Edward Island Branch of the Canadian Bar Association from 1989-90, and was Vice-president of the Law Society of Prince Edward Island at the time of his appointment. Mr. Justice Campbell was appointed Queen's Counsel in December 2000.

This appointment is effective immediately.
