TAX COURT OF CANADA JUDICIAL APPOINTMENTS ANNOUNCED

OTTAWA, August 1, 2001 -- The Honourable Anne McLellan, Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada, today announced the following appointment:

François M. Angers, Q.C., of Edmunston is appointed a Judge of the Tax Court of   Canada.  He replaces the Honourable Donald G.H. Bowman who was appointed Associate Chief Judge.

Mr. Justice Angers received a Bachelor of Laws from the University of New Brunswick in 1976 and was admitted to the Bar of New Brunswick the same year.  Prior to his appointment, he was in general practice in Edmunston with particular experience in criminal and civil litigation.

Mr. Justice Angers served two terms as President of the Madawaska Bar Association and is a former President of the Law Society of New Brunswick.  In 1992, Mr. Justice Angers was appointed Queen's Counsel.

This appointment is effective immediately.
