BRITISH COLUMBIA JUDICIAL APPOINTMENT ANNOUNCED
OTTAWA, October 01, 2001 - The Honourable Anne McLellan, Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada, today announced the following appointment:
The Honourable Kenneth J. Smith of the British Columbia Supreme Court is appointed a judge of the British Columbia Court of Appeal. He replaces the Honourable Mr. Justice W. A. Esson who elected to become a supernumerary judge.
Mr. Justice Smith received a Bachelor of Laws from the University of British Columbia in 1965 and was admitted to the Bar of British Columbia the following year. He was first appointed to the British Columbia Supreme Court in 1993. Mr. Justice
Smith has served on a variety of judicial committees during his time as a member of the Supreme Court of British Columbia.
This appointment is effective immediately.
