NOVA SCOTIA JUDICIAL APPOINTMENT ANNOUNCED

OTTAWA, October 31, 2001 -- The Honourable Anne McLellan, Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada, today announced the following appointment:

The Honourable Marlene Jill Hamilton of the Nova Scotia Supreme Court (Trial Division) is appointed a Judge of the Nova Scotia Court of Appeal. She replaces Mr. Justice G.B. Freeman who elected to become a supernumerary judge.

Madam Justice Hamilton received an LL.B. from Dalhousie University in 1974. The following year, she studied in London, England obtaining an LL.M. from University of London, England as well as a Diploma in Air & Space Law from the Institute of World Affairs. She was appointed to the Nova Scotia Supreme Court in 1995.

This appointment is effective immediately.
