SASKATCHEWAN COURT OF QUEEN'S BENCH JUDICIAL APPOINTMENT

OTTAWA, August 30, 2001 -- The Honourable Anne McLellan, Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada, today announced the following appointment:

Dennis P. Ball, Q.C., of Regina, is appointed a Judge of the Saskatchewan Court of Queen's Bench.  He replaces Mr. Justice R.L. Barclay who has elected to become a supernumerary judge. 

Mr. Justice Ball received a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Saskatchewan in 1968.  He began practice with the Estevan firm of Kohaly & Associates and later became a partner with Hill, McLellan, Ball, Cundall & Bridges in Estevan.  In 1982, he was appointed Chair of the Saskatchewan Labour Relations Board where he served until becoming a partner with MacPherson Leslie & Tyerman in Regina in 1989.  Mr. Justice Ball was a Bencher of the Law Society of Saskatchewan from 1982 to 1985.  He is a former Chair of the Law Foundation of Saskatchewan.

This appointment is effective immediately.
