Cry of the Loon

Full-size Exhibition Common Loon, Gavia immer.

In recent years, the loon, with its sleek beauty and intricate pattern of black and white feathers, has taken on special significance -- it has become a symbol of our northern wilderness. Its eerie, haunting cry conjures up images of lonely northern lakes and inspires us to think about our place in the wild.

The Canadian Museum of Nature's Cry of the Loon focuses on the conservation of the common loon. Throughout this travelling exhibition, visitors are introduced to human activities that threaten the loon's survival. Visitors learn what they can do to help conserve loons and their habitat.
