Justice Partnership and Innovation Fund
Nunavut Priority

Introduction

This component of the Justice Partnership and Innovation Fund is dedicated to projects undertaken in the Territory of Nunavut. Every effort is made to understand and address Nunavut's unique and challenging circumstances when proposals are reviewed. The main objective of the Nunavut priority is:

• To support the establishment of an effective justice delivery system which recognizes Nunavut's realities and needs in cultural, social and geographic terms.

The Department of Justice works closely with the Nunavut government to establish innovative approaches to the delivery of justice in Nunavut communities. Some of these activities may include:

• Projects that seek to assist the territory in identifying possible justice solutions for their citizens and infrastructures for justice services and programs;
• Feasibility studies that explore the development and implementation of justice services and programs;
• Projects that assist in the identification of solutions to justice challenges;
• The development, testing, implementation and evaluation of appropriate justice approaches that reflect the geographical, cultural and linguistic realities of Nunavut; and
• Capacity building with a view to developing and furthering justice expertise within Nunavut at both the federal and territorial government levels and within the communities.
