Audiences Educators Activities for ages 9 to 11

Activities for ages 9 to 11

The following activities are aimed at students who are 9 to 11 years old. We do recommend however, that teachers deliver a short lesson on emergency preparedness and disasters before distributing the puzzles to the students. Other Web resources such as the Canadian Red Cross This link opens a new window site can also provide valuable additional information to teachers.

Puzzles and identification games are great tools to help develop observation, thinking and analytic skills. The puzzles below deal with the general theme of emergency preparedness.

Picture identification

The following picture identification activities require each student to identify the right items to include in various disaster-specific emergency kits.

It would be a good idea for a short discussion to follow each of these activities in order to determine why students chose certain items and not others.
