Home Newsroom 2005 News releases (archive) 2005-01-07: Passing of Lieutenant Governor of Alberta

A statement by the Honourable Anne McLellan on the occasion of the passing of the Honourable Lois Hole, Lieutenant Governor of Alberta

Edmonton, January 7, 2005 -- It is with great sadness that I learned of the passing of the Honourable Lois Hole. Mrs. Hole was a beloved figure in our province. She was a tireless advocate for public education, public health, literacy and the arts. She brought boundless enthusiasm to a variety of endeavours and causes. Whether it was in the family's business or her work on behalf of institutions such as the University of Alberta or as a school trustee for many years in St. Albert, Mrs. Hole was a positive, spirited public servant.

As Lieutenant Governor, she shared her love and good will with all the people of Alberta. She had a hug for everyone. She will be missed by all Albertans. Through her life she represented the decency, integrity and compassion that is the essence of a caring and civil society. On behalf of the Government of Canada, I wish to express my sincerest condolences to her family and many, many friends.
