Anne McLellan announces appointments to the National Parole Board for the Pacific Region

Ottawa, October 24th, 2005 -- The Honourable Anne McLellan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness, today announced the following appointments as part-time members of the National Parole Board in the Pacific Region.

Terry Little of Pitt Meadows, BC, is currently a child care counsellor at the Youth Forensic Psychiatric Services of the Maples Adolescent Treatment Centre in Burnaby, BC. From 1990 to 1999, Mr. Little worked as a heath care worker in the BC Mental Health Society of the Port Coquitlam Riverview Hospital. In 1996, he received his Master of Laws degree from the University of Alberta.

Kelly A. MacDonald of Vancouver, BC, has been providing legal counsel to various First Nations bands and Aboriginal organizations since 1992. She has served on several boards and commissions including the Vancouver Police Board, the BC Children’s Commission, the Child and Family Review Board of BC, and the BC Human Rights Tribunal. She is presently a Senior Adjudicator for the Residential Schools Adjudication. Ms. MacDonald received her Bachelor of Laws in 1991 and her Master of Laws in 2000 from the University of British Columbia.

Maryam Majedi of Vancouver, BC, has been a Manager in the Special Prosecution Office of the B.C. Ministry of the Attorney General since 2002. From 1988 to 2002, Ms. Majedi was Regional Manager of the Crown Counsel Victim/Witness Services in the Criminal Justice Branch of the Ministry of Attorney General. In 1972, she received her Bachelor of Arts, Law degree at the National University of Iran. Ms. Majedi has served as a board member of various organizations including the Multicultural Organization MOSAIC, the People’s Law School, the Criminal Justice Program and the Immigrant and Multicultural Services Society.

The National Parole Board is an independent tribunal responsible for deciding the timing and conditions of release of offenders on various forms of parole. As part of the criminal justice system, the Board contributes to the protection of society by facilitating the timely integration of offenders as law-abiding citizens. The Board’s first and foremost consideration in its decision-making is the safety of the public.
