OTTAWA, June 16, 2006 --The Honourable Stockwell Day, Minister of Public Safety, today announced the appointment of Ms. Barbara Brady of Perth, Ontario as a part-time Member in the Ontario Region of the National Parole Board. Up until her retirement in April 2002, Ms. Brady devoted an extensive career in corrections with the Ontario government. From 1975 to 1986 she worked as a probation officer with young offenders then from 1986 to 2002 as a probation and parole officer with adult offenders as well as young offenders aged 16 to 17. Ms. Brady obtained her Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology and Sociology from Queen’s University in 1972 and her Master of Social Work from Carleton University in 1974. The National Parole Board is an independent tribunal responsible for deciding the timing and conditions of release of offenders on various forms of parole. As part of the criminal justice system, the Board contributes to the protection of the community by facilitating the timely integration of offenders as law-abiding citizens. The Board’s first and foremost consideration in its decision-making is the safety of the public.
