Public Safety Minister Stockwell Day issues statement on Canada’s National Day to Remember Victims of Terror

June 23, 2006 -- “Today marks the second annual National Day to Remember Victims of Terror. On this day, the anniversary of the worst terrorist incident in Canadian history -- the bombing of Air India flight 182 -- we remember all Canadian citizens who have lost their lives through acts of terror.

“We remember those who were killed in New York on September 11, 2001 and those who were killed in Bali on October 12, 2002. And we remember all Canadians who have died elsewhere around the globe at the hands of terrorists.

“As demonstrated by the recent arrests in Toronto, Canada remains vigilant to the threat of terrorism. We continue to work with our allies and partners in Canada and around the world to protect Canadians, root out terrorism and bring those responsible to justice. 

“It is with great sadness that we honour the memory of terror victims. We hope that acts of terrorism will remain a rarity in Canada and will continue to work to ensure the safety of Canadians everywhere.”
