Home Newsroom 2006 News releases 2006-09-27: Minister Day applauds RCMP efforts to dismantle drug trafficking ring in the Yukon

Minister Day applauds RCMP efforts to dismantle drug trafficking ring in the Yukon

September 27, 2006 — Today, the Honourable Stockwell Day, Minister of Public Safety, released this statement following the arrest of 17 individuals for drug-trafficking in communities across the Yukon:

“Many Canadians are all too familiar with the negative impact of drugs in our communities.  Everyday, law enforcement agencies across the country work tirelessly to keep illicit drugs off our streets.

Today’s arrests demonstrate the RCMP’s commitment to keeping our communities drug-free. On behalf of the Government of Canada and all Canadians, I would like to commend the RCMP for their excellent work and their dedication to combating drugs in our communities.

Canada’s new government is taking action to tackle crime. We are determined to keep drugs out of our communities and we are committed to ensuring that the RCMP and law enforcement agencies have all the tools and resources needed to effectively discharge their policing duties.”
