Home Policy Emergency management CBRN Strategy

Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear Strategy

The Government of Canada, through PSEPC, has taken action in recent years to address chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear (CBRN) terrorist threats. A comprehensive CBRN Strategy was implemented in 2005. There have also been significant investments in science and technology research and development as well as training and equipment for first responders.

The Government of Canada CBRN Strategy defines the roles and responsibilities of all federal departments, provinces, territories and municipalities in addressing CBRN threats and incidents. As well, the Strategy provides a framework for future initiatives and investments, focusing on four objectives:

  • prevention/mitigation
  • preparedness
  • response
  • recovery

For more information, consult The Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear Strategy of the Government of Canada document.
