Priorities for the regional call for proposals (Ontario)

Funding is available for projects in Ontario that adopt Crime Prevention through Social Development (CPSD) as a primary approach to address risk factors that contribute to crime and victimization.  Ontario Region has articulated its funding priorities towards those projects that use a partnership-based approach to support comprehensive initiatives focused on the following priority groups and issues: children (0-12); youth (12-18); personal security and interpersonal violence; and Aboriginal communities.

For the Fiscal Year 2006/2007, CPAF funding in Ontario Region will give priority to the following issues and groups:

Children (0-12)

  • Prevention of gang involvement;
  • Children of incarcerated parents;
  • Children at-risk of being placed in-care, or children who already are in-care;
  • Children under the age of 12 who have committed criminal acts;

Youth (12-18)

  • Prevention or intervention in gang-involvement;
  • Youth at-risk of being placed in-care, or youth who already are in-care;
  • Youth in rural communities who are engaged in various antisocial behaviours, including substance abuse and violence;
  • Prevention and intervention of bullying in secondary schools.

Personal Security and Interpersonal Violence

  • Victimization of men/women in domestic settings, including both prevention and intervention approaches;
  • Prevention of the victimization of members of the LGBTTQ communities;
  • Prevention of aggressive/violent behaviours amongst girls;
  • Prevention of hate-crimes based upon ethnocultural identities;
  • Newcomer communities whose members have experienced prior victimization and trauma in their country-of-origin.

Aboriginal Communities

  • Projects focused on preventing victimization and criminality amongst Aboriginal communities in urban settings;
  • Projects that encompass any of the priority areas listed above, but are specific to Aboriginal communities.

The deadline to submit applications is February 24, 2006.
