Mozilla products contain multiple vulnerabilities

Update to Advisory AV06-012
Date: 4 May 2006

Mozilla Firefox contains a vulnerability that may allow a remote attacker to execute arbitrary code or create a denial of service condition. An attacker may be able to execute arbitrary code by convincing a user to visit a specially crafted web site employing the contentWindow.focus() method.

PSEPC recommends that system administrators test and update to Firefox version 1.5.0.3. For more information, please refer to: http://www.auscert.org.au/render.html?it=6260

Number: AV06-012
Date: 18 April 2006

Purpose

The purpose of this advisory is to bring attention to multiple vulnerabilities contained in the Mozilla web browser and derived products. Any products based on Mozilla components, particularly Gecko may also be affected.

Assessment

The most severe impact of these vulnerabilities could allow a remote attacker to execute arbitrary code with the privileges of the user running the affected application. Other effects include a denial of service or local information disclosure.

Products affected:
Mozilla browser, email and newsgroup client
Mozilla SeaMonkey prior to version 1.0.1
Firefox prior to version 1.5.0.2
Thunderbird prior to version 1.5.0.2
Mozilla Suite

Suggested action

PSEPC recommends that administrators test and upgrade to Mozilla Firefox 1.5.0.2, Mozilla Thunderbird 1.5.0.2, or SeaMonkey 1.0.1.
