Richard Fortin has gained extensive knowledge and experience having worked in the Canadian Grain Commission's (CGC) Bayport, Thunder Bay and Pacific regions and in all CGC locations in the Eastern Region. He began working for Ports Canada in Montréal as a grain weigher in 1973. In 1978, he began his career at the CGC as a grain weigher in Montréal. He became supervising weigher in the region's district office in Quebec City in 1985 and, in 1993, became supervisor of both inspection and weighing staff. In 1998, he returned to Montréal to work as the Eastern Region's weigh specialist.
Richard Fortin was a member of a CGC committee to cross train inspectors and weighers and is currently a member of the CGC's safety advisors' group and the IP (identity preservation) Recognition System committee. He is also co-president of the local health and safety committee. He was appointed regional director, Eastern Region in September 2002.
