Brian Marchylo, PhD

Brian Marchylo has been program manager of the Durum Wheat Research unit since 1992. He obtained his Bachelor of Science (Hons) in chemistry and a Master of Science and doctorate in cereal chemistry from the University of Manitoba. He began his career in 1978 as a research scientist at Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada's Winnipeg Research Centre developing durum wheat quality screening methods. In 1979, he joined the Canadian Grain Commission where he carried out research on wheat and barley hydrolytic enzymes, the development of variety identification techniques by electrophoresis and high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC), and studies on the relationship between storage proteins and end-use quality. He is chair of the Wheat, Rye and Triticale Quality Evaluation Team of the Prairie Registration Recommending Committee for Grain and a member of the Canada Grains Council's Biosafety Grain Trade Committee.
