Debbie Pankewich

Debbie Pankewich started her career with the Canadian Grain Commission’s (CGC) former weighing division in Thunder Bay, Ontario in May 1979. In May 1982, she joined the former inspection division as an assistant grain inspector, and in 1989 she was promoted to the position of grain inspector. From 1989 to 1998, Debbie Pankewich worked in various inspection offices of the CGC throughout Canada. In 1998, she accepted the position of inspection specialist at Head Office in Winnipeg, Manitoba. In January 2001, she accepted the position of manager, Reinspection and Quality Control. In February 2004, she became manager, National Quality Monitoring Unit. As required, she has assumed the role of acting chief grain inspector for Canada.

Since the year 2000, Debbie Pankewich has visited every region of Canada and has represented the CGC at industry meetings and farmers’ conferences. During her career she has traveled on technical missions representing the CGC in Russia, China, Venezuela, Colombia, and Chile, as well as being involved with foreign delegations visiting Canada. In 1999, she chaired the internal financial review committee during a regulatory review of the CGC. She co-facilitated the internal weighing review and is co-chair of the Grain Quality Management system. In 2004 she worked on the development of a proposal for a variety eligibility declaration system and was involved in country-wide consultations. Debbie Pankewich represents the CGC on various industry committees.

Debbie Pankewich became manager, Inspection Services for the Eastern Region in December 2005.
