Susan Stevenson, PhD

Chemist, Wheat Protein Research,
Bread Wheat Studies and Baking Research
Grain Research Laboratory

Susan Stevenson started working for the Grain Research Laboratory (GRL), Canadian Grain Commission (CGC) in 1974. From 1974 to 1978 she worked with Phil Williams, PhD, in the Rapid Methods Development laboratory as a technician, then as chemist-in-charge, applying near-infrared spectroscopy to cereal analysis. In 1978 she left the CGC to raise a family, and after working as a part-time research assistant in the Department of Foods and Nutrition at the University of Manitoba, she returned to the GRL in 1988 as a technician in the Rapid Methods Development laboratory. From 1990 to 1992, she worked with Ken Preston, PhD, in the Bread Wheat Studies and Baking Research laboratory, as a postdoctoral fellow studying gluten proteins. In 1992, she became a chemist in this section.

Susan Stevenson's areas of research include wheat protein characterization and the application of field-flow fractionation to the separation of various polymeric cereal components. She is involved in the preparation and publication of the CGC's annual harvest survey information.

Susan Stevenson holds a doctorate in cereal chemistry and a Master of Science degree in foods and nutrition from the University of Manitoba as well as a Bachelor of Science degree in home economics from Macdonald College of McGill University in Montréal.

She is a member of both the local American Association of Cereal Chemists (AACC) Canadian Prairie Section No.14 and the National AACC.

The CGC has a bibliographic database of scientific papers by GRL staff. For Susan Stevenson's scientific papers, search the Bibliography of Scientific Papers.
