Who we are...
The Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA) supports sustainable development activities in order to reduce poverty and to contribute
to a more secure, equitable and prosperous world.
Sustainable development is a complex, long-term process that involves all of the world's people, governments and organizations at all levels.
Working with partners in the private and public sectors in Canada and in developing countries, and with international organizations and
agencies, we support foreign aid projects in more than 100 of the poorest countries of the world.
The objective: to work with developing countries and countries in transition to develop the tools to eventually meet their own needs.
Our health focus...
Promoting better health in developing countries is as important for Canada as improving health at home.
In a world where communicable diseases know no borders, where tensions and strife in one region can send tremors of unease around the globe,
investing in global health helps to ensure Canadians' own health and security. At the same time, healthy people can take better care of
themselves and their families, and are better able to contribute to the economic, social, and political lives of their nations.
Canada is active in promoting health and nutrition in developing countries and countries in transition, focusing on the poorest
and most marginalized people—who are most often women and children.
