Who we are...
Our mission is to "help the people of Canada maintain and improve their health." The department plays a key role in supporting the Government of Canada’s view that a healthy population is the cornerstone of a healthy and prosperous society.

In partnership with provincial and territorial governments, Health Canada provides national leadership in the following areas:

  • developing health policy;
  • enforcing health regulations;
  • promoting disease prevention; and
  • enhancing healthy living for all Canadians

The department ensures that health services are available and accessible to First Nations and Inuit communities. It also works closely with other federal departments, agencies and stakeholders to reduce health and safety risks to Canadians.
