Citizenship and Immigration Canada

Who we are...
Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) has a mandate to develop and implement immigration and citizenship policies and programs.

The goals of the Department are to build a stronger Canada by:

  • deriving maximum benefit from the global movement of people while meeting international humanitarian commitments;
  • managing access to Canada
  • protecting refugees at home and abroad;
  • defining membership in Canadian society; and
  • working with provinces, municipalities and community groups to help newcomers integrate

Our health focus...
The Medical Services Branch supports Canadian immigration and health systems through the provision of immigration and public health advice, service and support to migrants, the Department, Health Canada, and other stakeholders. In particular, the Branch develops policies and designs programs that manage the specific health issues related to immigration and resettlement from abroad, and in partnership with other departments and central agencies plans and delivers programs that support the health of Canadian overseas staff and dependants. The Branch also strives to increase the understanding of health issues and concerns faced by migrants.

Medical Services Branch provides immigration medical assessment services to immigrants, refugees and refugee claimants. In addition, the Division is committed to preventing the introduction of important infectious agents into Canada and reducing demands on the Canadian health care system.

Our audience...

  • Health care professionals working with migrants or other mobile populations
  • Canadians
  • Overseas staff
