Special Service Medal Bar Order "PEACE--PAIX"

Whereas, pursuant to sections 2, 4 and 5 of the Special Service Medal Regulations, the Special Service Medal shall be awarded to a member of the Canadian Forces who has performed special service as determined by the Governor in Council;
And Whereas, pursuant to subsection 4(4) of the said Regulations, the Special Service Medal shall be awarded with a Bar representing a particular special service;
Therefore, His Excellency the Governor General in Council, on the recommendation of the Prime Minister, pursuant to the definition "special service" in section 2 of the Special Service Medal Regulations, is pleased hereby
(a) to revoke Order in Council P.C. 1992-2437 of 26 November 1992*;
(b) to determine an aggregate of 180 days of honourable service in peacekeeping operations, listed in the Annex attached hereto, from the beginning of international peacekeeping operations on November 1947 and still continuing, in accordance with the international norms established by the United Nations and other international organizations in respect of service medals already approved by the Canadian Government, which service has not been recognized by any other award in or accepted into the Canadian system of honours, to be special service within the meaning of those Regulations;
(c) to determine that members must be deployed outside Canada in an active capacity with, in conjunction with, or in association with an operational peacekeeping truce supervision, observer force or similar missions; and
(d) to determine that the Bar awarded with the Special Service Medal representing the special service referred to in paragraph (b) shall bear the words "PEACE--PAIX".
