Urban Infrastructure
Many of the infrastructure systems in Canada and the United States, worth trillions of dollars, are failing prematurely and are in need of costly repairs. The deterioration is so severe that it threatens the economic efficiency of both countries. Both industry and government require accurate methods for assessing the condition of infrastructure systems and innovative technologies for cost-effective renewal.
IRC's Urban Infrastructure Program focuses on the deterioration of infrastructure systems, developing cost-effective rehabilitation technologies and better methods and tools for the efficient management of municipal infrastructure. Collaborative research projects, involving private companies, municipalities and other government agencies, investigate how and when to repair, rehabilitate or replace particular municipal assets, taking into account past performance, expected performance and life-cycle costs.
