Doing Business with SIMS

The Business Development Office

The Business Development Office's mission is to commercialize the Steacie Institute for Molecular Sciences (SIMS) research results through the creation of new spin-off companies and Research and Development collaborative partnerships with a view to providing an economic return in the form of job and wealth creation to Canada. The BDL is a full service office that takes care of SIMS business needs through agreement negotiation and execution; business creation and development; the creation and mentoring of spin-offs, spin-ins, and incubator companies; collaborative research; and intellectual property (IP)/knowledge management. The office is responsible for liaison with NRC institutes, NRC's Industrial Research Assistance Program (IRAP), industry and academia.

Goals, Objectives and Strategies

The Office is responsible for portfolio management in 3 areas:

  1. Technology/Intellectual Property (IP) management
  2. Commercialization
  3. Collaborative research with NRC institutes and industry

Industrial Partnership Facility

NRC has an Industrial Partnership Facility (IPF) and welcomes new tenants who wish to accelerate their technologies by interacting with NRC. Some of our tenants include,Pharmagap Inc, OCCELL Inc, Sussex Research Laboratories Inc, Liska Biometry Inc, and Painceptor Corporation.
