Our on-site DNA Sequencing Facility, operated in partnership with Genome Atlantic, has the capacity to yield 1.5M base pairs and prepare more than 3,000 samples a day. It is the largest facility in Atlantic Canada and is one of the most the most active in the country. With an array of biological expertise and a suite of automated sequencers, we let the first team to complete a whole-organism genome sequence in Canada.
Equipped with world-class technologies in sample preparation, sequencing, robotics, and advanced bioinformatics, we do large-scale DNA sequencing and all the associated functions.
Our state-of-the-art facility is tailored to perform automated sequencing of EST libraries and complete genomes. We do large-scale DNA sequencing and all associated functions, including extensive data management and analysis using NRC's Canadian Bioinformatics Resource (CBR), a nationwide distributed bioinformatics network with the central node at NRC-IMB.
This facility provides DNA sequencing infrastructure required for several in-house projects, mainly related to fish and shellfish health and nutrition. Current research includes the sequencing of several bacterial genomes including pathogens of fish and mammals. Our research in collaboration with other NRC institutes and the private sector focuses on more defined gene targets in fish and specific human genes.
