Industrial Security Sector 65th Anniversary

CELEBRATING 65 YEARS

Message from the Director General of the Industrial Security Sector, Gerry Deneault

Gerry DeneaultIn 2006, the Industrial Security Program (ISP) commemorates its 65th anniversary. The Industrial Security Program as we know it today came into existence in the latter part of 1940, under the auspices of the Legal Branch of the Department of Munitions and Supply (one of the predecessors of PWGSC). Subsequently, on August 4, 1941, the Industrial Security Branch was established as a separate unit. As such, the ISP is one of the federal government’s oldest security programs. To this date, it continues to play a vital role in protecting the national security interests of Canada and its allies. The ISP currently protects sensitive and controlled government information, assets and goods in approximately 8,000 private sector organizations that comprise some 340,000 security screened employees, all of which support Canada's National Security Policy framework. We are very proud of our achievements to date and we are committed to building an even better future on the strength of our past.

It is with great pride that I express my highest gratitude to all those who have been directly or indirectly involved with the ISP, both in government and in the private sector, throughout its sixty-five year history. Together we have contributed and continue to contribute to the safety and security of all Canadians. I am truly honored to be heading such a professional organization at a time when security is more important than it has ever been.
