Canada seeks to attract immigrants who can quickly adapt to life in
Canada and contribute to our economic, social and cultural prosperity.
It also seeks to help all newcomers achieve their full potential here
in Canada.
This is why the Government of Canada has made it a priority to reduce
the barriers many immigrants face to fully participating in Canadian society,
especially when it comes to finding work.
Federal government departments are establishing consistent strategies
to help new immigrants make a successful transition into the labour market,
always respectful of the fact that provincial and territorial governments
are responsible for many associated policy areas.
Our aim is to serve as an effective, departmentally coordinated partner
to the provinces and territories, on key issues such as:
- Improving the availability of accurate and real-life information about
working in Canada—what immigrants need to know before they
come to Canada.
- Working to speed up the assessment and recognition of foreign qualifications
(degrees, diplomas and work experience).
- Providing higher levels of language training—so immigrants can
enter and remain in jobs that match their skills and qualifications.
- Offering opportunities to gain Canadian work experience.
