Prince Edward Island Cattle Order

Her Excellency the Governor General in Council, on the recommendation of the Minister of Agriculture, pursuant to section 2* of the Agricultural Products Marketing Act, is pleased hereby to make the annexed Order granting authority to regulate the marketing in interprovincial and export trade of cattle produced in Prince Edward Island.

ORDER GRANTING AUTHORITY TO REGULATE THE MARKETING IN INTERPROVINCIAL AND EXPORT TRADE OF CATTLE PRODUCED IN PRINCE EDWARD ISLAND

SHORT TITLE

1. This Order may be cited as the Prince Edward Island Cattle Order.

INTERPRETATION

2. In this Order,

"Act" means the Natural Products Marketing Act of Prince Edward Island; (Loi)

"cattle" means finished cattle produced in Prince Edward Island that are sold for slaughter; (bovins)

"Commodity Group" means the Prince Edward Island Cattlemen's Association Inc. (groupement de producteurs) SOR/92-449, s. 1.

INTERPROVINCIAL AND EXPORT TRADE

3. The Commodity Group is authorized to regulate the marketing of cattle in interprovincial and export trade and for such purposes may, with respect to persons and property situated within the Province of Prince Edward Island, exercise all or any powers like the powers exercisable by it in relation to the marketing of cattle locally within that Province under the Act.

LEVIES

4. The Commodity Group may, in relation to the powers granted to it by section 3 with respect to the marketing of cattle in interprovincial and export trade,

(a) fix and impose, by order, and collect levies or charges from persons situated in the Province of Prince Edward Island who are engaged in the production or marketing of cattle and for that purpose classify those persons into groups and fix, by order, the levies or charges payable by the members of the different groups in different amounts; and

(b) use the levies or charges for its purposes, including the creation of reserves, the payment of expenses and losses resulting from the sale or disposal of cattle and the equalization or adjustment among producers of cattle of moneys realized from the sale thereof during such period or periods of time as the Commodity Group may determine.
