Randy Clear

Mycologist, Mycology Laboratory
Grain Research Laboratory

Mycologist Randy Clear has been head of the Canadian Grain Commission's mycology laboratory since 1983. Randy Clear received his Bachelor of Science in agriculture from the University of Manitoba in 1976. Before joining the CGC, he worked in plant virology at the Cereal Research Centre for five years. While working at the CGC, he earned his Master of Science degree at the University of Manitoba in 1987. Randy Clear was one of the first Manitoba scientists to document the invasion of fusarium head blight in the Red River Valley. Since then his work at the CGC has lead to extensive research into the fungal genus Fusarium that causes the disease. He has also worked closely with the Grain Research Laboratory to identify the effects of fungi on the processing quality of grain. Randy Clear has made many presentations in Canada and abroad on Fusarium and other fungal species that affect Canadian grain. He has published over 40 scientific papers.
