Predicting Crime: A Review of the Research : Research Reports
Author: S. Schneider  (2004-06-15)
Description: This report identifies and examines studies by leading justice organizations that have developped predictions about how crime will evolve over the next two decades in the West. Interviews were combined with a review of the electronic and printed literature and organization reports. The report finds that the rate of crime is expected to be quite stable with some increase as the proportion of youth in the population increases during the next decade (this is assuming that charging practices remain roughly the same). However, the nature and scope of crime has been changing and will continue to change with the impact of new technologies and the globalization of crime. While the substance of the crimes such as theft will remain the same the objects of theft and the location of the crime will change markedly.
