Legal Aid Eligibility and Coverage in Canada : Research Reports

Description: This research examines the two main rationing mechanisms by which legal aid commissions control their costs; financial eligibility guidelines and coverage provisions. The report compares legal aid financial eligibility guidelines to low income cut-offs. The gaps between financial eligibility levels and low income levels are assessed, and estimates are produced for the numbers of "poor" people not covered by legal aid. Coverage provisions (legal matters for which legal aid is normally provided) are compared among the ten provincial legal aid societies or commissions.
