Research
The NRC Institute for Information Technology (NRC-IIT) conducts research in software and systems technologies — including algorithms, methodologies and software engineering — as well as some applied research.
The following broad areas of investigation provide the framework for NRC-IIT's research portfolio:
- Knowledge from Data
- People-Oriented Systems
- E-business
Between 50% and 85% of the research NRC-IIT conducts is "foundational"; that is, research activities undertaken to identify subsequent strategic initiatives — or "super projects" — in areas with the potential for having the greatest impact. The remaining 15% to 50% of the research at NRC-IIT consists of the execution of these super projects.
Currently, NRC-IIT conducts foundational research in the following fields of inquiry:
- knowledge discovery
- visual processing
- pervasive computing
- software systems development
- security and privacy
- broadband communication
- grid computing
- collaborative computing
- e-business, including e-learning, e-health and e-government/e-citizen
Information is available on each of NRC-IIT's research programs, as well as on the research programs in each of the Institute's locations.
