Biography
Hakan graduated from the Université du Québec, Institut national de la recherche scientifique (INRS), Montreal (1994) with a Ph.D. degree in Telecommunications, and from McGill University, Montreal (1989) with a M.Sc. in Computer Science. He holds a B.Sc degree in Computer Engineering from Bosphorus University, Istanbul, Turkey (1986).
Hakan is a Senior Research Officer in the NRC-IIT Software Engineering Group, which he joined in 1995, following his appointment at INRS as a research associate. His early research at NRC-IIT focused on formal methods, applied to the specification and analysis of concurrent programs. The output of this research was an extension to the protocol validation tool SPIN.
From 1997 to 1999, Dr. Erdogmus developed mathematical models for reasoning about architectural properties of communicating systems, continuing to build on his background in formal methods. His collaboration in this context with Dr. Oryal Tanir of Bell Canada resulted in a tool that supports the reuse of architectural designs.
Hakan's current research interests are centered on two threads:
- His research in software economics aims to improve the quality and effectiveness of decision making in software development.
- His activities in agile and collaborative methods aims to improve the state of software practice through processes that leverage team communication to cope with uncertainty and change.
Hakan is active in the Economics-Driven Software Engineering Research (EDSER) as well as Agile Methods and Extreme Programming communities. He has helped organize several events that promote and advance the work of these communities.
Hakan was a program co-chair of CASCON '97, the annual conference of the IBM Centre for Advanced Studies. He co-edited the book, Advances in Software Engineering, published by Springer (2001). Additional Information- Research Project Portfolio:
