Mobile Agent-Based Enabling Technologies

Mobile Agent-Based Enabling Technologies for Ad Hoc Virtual Teams over the Internet is 3-year project (until September 2004) conducted in collaboration with the University of Ottawa and Mitel Corporation.

The research team is designing and developing a multi-site infrastructure to:

  • facilitate ad hoc access to heterogeneous resources - both dynamic and static - at one site by users located at a foreign site
  • facilitate location-based access for communication among users that participate in the conference session
  • exercise the use of SIP (Session Initiation Protocol) for ad hoc collaboration
  • share information based on the context of a conference session
  • help users communicate among themselves in a conference setting
  • project users and their automatically discovered resources and services to other users with appropriate access rights
  • project the availability of resources to users

Positive results of this research could benefit public and private enterprises, dispersed research groups and multi-vendor collaboration projects, among others.

Possible application areas include:

  • ad hoc conferences and collaboration tools
  • SIP-based IP phone systems
  • hardware and software resource discovery
  • location-based and context-based applications
  • presence middleware software
  • pervasive computing
  • conferences through Virtual Private Networks (VPNs)

Inquiries about collaborating in this research are welcome. Possible research opportunities are in peer to peer, web services and grid services technologies, mobile-agent frameworks, GPS, pervasive and wearable computing. If interested, please contact the research contact listed below.
