PEGGAsus (Learning Marketplace)

The aim of this project is to: draw input not only from course providers (in the form of metadata regarding course offerings) but also industry partners (metadata regarding course offerings as well as payment and promotion information) and external certification boards (metadata regarding course assessment and recognition). Users of the service receive customized course offerings (via the web and by email) based on their selected interests, previous progress, employer funding and certification requirements.

The project started in November 2001 and is expected to end in November 2003.

We expect to provide the architectural design for the learning marketplace, consulting on business models and project management, and foster relations between this and similar projects in the field.

Our research results could have an impact on the following sectors: e-Learning, engineering and geophysics.

Research opportunities related to this project: The project will demonstrate the use of learner and employer driven e-Learning in a marketplace environment. Research opportunities include the assessment and evaluation of the provision of e-Learning, the provision of mobile (wireless) e-learning access, the design and deployment of e-Learning opportunities to the engineering and geophysics professions.

Technical transfer opportunities related to this project: possibly some aspects related to mobile e-Learning.

Possible applications include: similar e-learning marketplaces for other professions, including health, education, emergency services, law, and business.

Project partners include: the University of Alberta (Institute for Professional Development, Association of Professional Engineers, Geologists and Geophysicists of Alberta (APEGGA).
